A Refreshing Demonstration of Courage

Posted By tim_stebbins On March 4, 2009 @ 17:39 In Community Affairs, Clubs & SIGs, Operations, News!, Other | 3 Comments

At the regular monthly meeting of the Government Affairs Advisory Committee on March 4, 2009, five of the six members resigned to protest the unacceptable behavior of some current and former members of the SCA board of directors.

Included in this action were Committee Chairperson Ms. Joan Patrick and Committee Vice Chairperson Ms. Rana Goodman. Each committee member professionally presented their disappointment and frustration as they read their personal letter of resignation.

It is indeed refreshing to see people of conviction stand up for their principals. All are people of immense character with enormous talent and experience. It seems some or all of these individuals feel they can and will better serve the interests of the SCA community homeowners as a citizens group independent from the board. They each deserve our support and cooperation as they move forward.

Tim,

You are 100% right. Martin Charney, Marcia Kosterka, Donna Dickey, Joan Patrick, and Rana Goodman all deserve a “High Five” from the members Sun City Anthem.

While most people have been convinced that “Everything is Wonderful”, and we should all join hands and sing Cume By Yah, there has been a smoldering fire underneath the surface of our wonderful community.

The board members complain about getting too many complaints - Well BOO HOO! Hasn’t anyone realized that in order to pass muster far enough to even GET TO complaint status, there must be enough evidence for the Ombudsman’s board to take action?

I want to add my congratulations and well wishes to all these members for their courageous act. I can only hope they do not have to face they same kind of retribution and disrespect from the Board of Directors that I have had to endure.

This was bound to happen. When at the Board meeting when the committee was created, one of them asked for SCA Business cards so that they could adequately represent the community when at meetings out side ot the community. That wasn’t their charter. Their authority was to listen and report to the Board. They humbly acquiesced at the time, but must have had mental reservations.

I’m sorry, but they have no authority to meet with various legislators stating that they represent the HOA— represent me! No! I object!

Whether we like it or not, this Board, the Committees, and members of those organizations do not represent the Association beyond the bounds of the community.

That is exactly why the oversight committee (formed by the City of Henderson, not by the SCA Board) was so effective.

The Board should abolish the Committee.

Sorry Chuck but you are absolutely incorrect in your statement. None of the committee members of GAAC ever presented themselves as speaking for or representing Sun City Anthem! We carefully explained that we were seeking information to establish facts to report to the Board of Directors. The Board in turn would make all decisions. How would you know what we did or didn’t do other than by gossip? You have never contacted me to ask questions. This is a perfect example of the behind the scences rumor mill that is SCA’AS biggest problem. The Oversight Committee often testified before Government meetings that they “spoke for 10,000 residents” which was totaly untrue. Many times decisions were made behind close doors and the residents never knew anything about it. How do I know - -because I witnessed it many times. I don’t Blog but this type of attack is what GAAC put up with from day one. Makes me wonder what individuals might be concerned we would discover.
